Many of us don’t take the time to really take in our environment, yet our surroundings have a deep effect on us. Interior designers are trained to understand the many ways in which our environment affects us and creates specific atmospheres. This is not a simple matter of Feng Shui or color coordination. Designers look at our psychology, our physiology, our culture, and the purpose of the space that is to be created. This involves a broad understanding of a variety of different subjects and the ability to taking a basic idea and drafting a detailed plan, then taking that plan through all stages to completion. Interior design is not all about making a space look nice. It’s also about utility. Design for the workplace, for example, must incorporate functionality and ergonomics. A pretty place to work is not worth much if, for example, the chairs make your back hurt, and you don’t have enough storage space. If you are passionate about both form and function, an interior design degree might be something to consider.

It is important for you to check with your state’s regulatory board and with the regulatory board of any state where you may wish to work as a designer prior to choosing an online program. This is especially true if the online degree program you are interested in is offered by a school outside your state. Not all programs will meet the requirements of your particular state. There are so many online programs available, that you shouldn’t have much trouble finding something that fits well with your goals. Once you find the program that fits for you, you’ll be well on your way to designing your perfect future.
