Friday Update - Is anybody home?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Dan Karleen @ 4:21 pm

Well, it’s been a busy week, and I wanted to update you on what’s up. I’ve been busy helping build some new sites for Peterson’s (including some where our higher ed clients will be featured nicely, I might add), pitching in with SEO efforts here and there, doing interviews for the ongoing study on admissions blogging, and preparing to say a few words at a Monday morning breakfast at a Council of Graduate Schools dean’s event in Cambridge.

What to make of all this? Well, things are paying off. We launched a massive SEO campaign earlier this year, and traffic and student connections with higher ed clients are way up as a result. We’ve also recently launched the most intense application of RSS in the graduate world that I know of, by pushing out updates from thousands of our clients via RSS, so that students can subscribe to updates in their disciplines of interest. (Check it out here; more on this to come.) Also, we’ve been seeing strong demand for a series of webinars on new media we’re putting together for clients.

And, I’m really excited about heading up through New England this weekend. First of all, I’ll get to spend a few minutes talking to a bunch of graduate school deans about all things new media. What will we cover? How about YouTube, LinkedIn, and SecondLife, for starters? It also means I’ll have a chance to connect with some fellow researchers from SNCR who are based up there and get some in-person updates on how things are going with them.

As far as the whole Rocketboom thing goes, well, I don’t have any comment at the moment (still baffled by the lack of clear information coming out), other than to say I hope that Andrew and Amanda patch things up soon, or else best of luck to them both.

Finally, a long overdue and big shout out to Paul Csogi, my amazing associate in all these efforts. Somehow he and his wife managed to find time in all this to have their first–a very healthy boy. Welcome to the world, Aden Stone!
